Day 5: Southern Gold Coast: Coolangata

IMG_8940 We decided to head down the coast today towards Tweed Heads,
Coolangata and the New South Wales state line. The Gold Coast just stretches on and on, miles and miles of sandy golden beach.

Each small village along the way is slightly different, it’s difficult to say which is better. Surfers Paradise is the most touristy in this region, I think, but Coolangata still has the beautiful beach but with less bravado, which makes it rather beautiful.

I was delighted to discover there was a Craft Market on, on the beach front when we arrived. I just love craft markets, even if I just walk and don’t buy. We found a lovely cafe too, which had some pretty cool big screen surf action on, and a heroes wall! And out the back, a huge surf shop! I guess it’s a must if you live here!

This whole coastline is so beautiful I could sit anywhere along here all day. We walked round to Rainbow Bay and Tweed Heads, where we found some impressive crashing waves and a large rock painted like a frog! Along here te Aussies make use of public barbecues much much more, bring half the contents of their house and set up for the day. It must be nice KNOWING it’s not going to rain!

A little further round and we reached the Captain Cook memorial statue at Point Danger. This is a name he gave it, and one that still stands today.

This is also the location of the state line, inconspicuous by this simple street name!

Currumbin

A simply stunning area, like a lot of this coast. Down here though, the tourism is less obvious and beauty shines through.

We took the coastal loops all the way back, sneaking looks at the beautiful sea all the way along.

Once we were back, we decided that there was one last thing that needed to be done before we leave, SUP lessons! So we headed down to a location that we knew they took place and booked our lesson for tomorrow!

This is where we will be trying to avoid an unscheduled dip!
